The construction of a large sculpture in the Plaza at Lincoln Center had me mesmerized for weeks. I asked multiple people multiple questions and of course received multiple (and conflicting) answers.
The answer was not as first predicted (a snow globe). Instead it is much more exciting and wonderful. Titled ‘Your Voices’, this kinetic sculpture was commissioned by Moët & Chandon and is designed by the British contemporary artist Es Devlin. It is on display until December 16.

The kinetic sculpture is formed of 700 glowing cords expressing the 700 languages currently spoken in New York City, Visitors can move through the arcs which are illuminated and revolving along with a rotating multilingual soundscape which interweaves languages drawn from all over the city. The soundscape was composed by Polyphonia. The work has been made in association with the Endangered Language Alliance. Their interactive map details every language and the location of its speakers within the city: https://languagemap.nyc

There will be a series of free multilingual choral concerts offered on several nights to add to the holiday spirit. In every language, this is way better than a snow globe!
Love your photos!!
You make the holidays merry!
