Just on the outskirts of Chattanooga, Tennessee is Lookout Mountain. Due to a driving rainstorm, we opted to visit Ruby Falls and skip the big city. Leo Lambert and a team of cave enthusiasts found a waterfall over 1,100 feet below the surface of Lookout Mountain in 1928. Lambert bought the land on the Tennessee side of the mountain and named the falls for his wife, Ruby. He opened the area as an attraction in 1930. The attraction is America’s deepest commercial cave and largest underground waterfall. The 145-foot waterfall is lit with many colors and set to a soundtrack, and draws an amazing amount of tourists. There are lots of sights to visit in the area when it is not raining…we will be back.
