Skirting Nashville and heading about twenty minutes south we arrived in Murfreesboro in time for a two-day bluegrass music and dance festival. The 41st Uncle Dave Macon Days festival is filled with traditional acoustic bluegrass and old-time (pre-70s acoustic country) music, clogging (like tap dancing with extra taps and different cool moves), and of course lots of fried and smoked food. There were many competitions and jamborees along with professional groups. We enjoyed every part of the experience except the heat and humidity combination. The town center, like so many we have visited, is built around the courthouse. This square is filled with nice shops and restaurants, and lucky for us, Saturday morning provided one of the best farmers markets ever with incredible fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Fine fiddlin, plucky pickin and fancy footwork had us toe-tapping and put sweet smiles on our faces in Murfreesboro.
