Perdido Key, Florida and Orange Beach, Alabama are on the Gulf coast in an area referred to as the Emerald Coast (due to the hue of the water against the sugar white beaches).
We took the coastal road from Tallahassee to Perdido Key. Along the way we stopped at three lighthouses. First, the Crooked River Lighthouse in Carabelle, Florida. This looks like a cross between an oil rig and a lighthouse. 
Next a more traditional one on Saint George Island, Florida; a truly beautiful and quaint Gulf island.
Finally, the Cape San Blas Lighthouse in Port Saint Joe, Florida. Another of those oil rig meets beacon lighthouse. 
After all those lighthouses, we stopped for lunch at the Sunset Coastal Grill in Port Saint Joe. It was delicious and we had a great view while we ate.
We continued our tandem motorcycle/car journey to Perdido Key, AL. I have a personal motorcycle escort leading me to our destination; I feel special.
Perdido is the Spanish word for lost. Unfortunately, Perdido Key has been found by developers. The beach and bay have been turned into the Daytona Beach of the Gulf, covered with high rise condos, hotels and souvenir stores. However, the beach is stunning along with unobstructed Gulf sunsets.
Also, there are a series of incredible bike trails to enjoy. They run along bayous and a State Park. They are paved and well maintained, covered with beautiful flora, and change in elevation. We rode for 28 miles and we were constantly in awe of our surroundings. There was a marathon going on at the same time and we were their cheering squad!
A long walk along the beach ended with a blanket, a bottle of wine and some snacks to watch the sunset turn Orange Beach orange. So fitting.
