Hot and sunny weather brought everyone outdoors to revel in Paris and the Summer Olympics. A bakery with croissants on the outside beckoned us to begin our day with warm baguettes and croissants.

Our first event of the day, Exhibition Skateboard and other Urban Sports at the Place de Concorde, was a frustrating and confusing disaster. The incredibly long lines had no guidance by officials and after an hour of almost no forward movement, we bailed and went to lunch at a bistro instead. Thrilled with our decision, we ate and drank in comfort while watching Gymnastics and Equestrian events on the large screen TV near our table.

After, we meandered to the left bank appreciating the many plazas, gardens and Parisian architecture along the way. Shops and cafes were all bustling with delighted and sweaty tourists.

Crossing back over the Seine at the Pont Alexandre III there are postcard-worthy views of the river and famous Paris landmarks. Just over the bridge are the Grande Palais (newly renovated) and often referred to as the Crystal Palace, and the Petit Palais (now a museum). Steps away, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is closed to car traffic during the Olympics which makes it possible to get a nice picture of the Arc de Triomphe from a distance.

A small art gallery, Galarie dHD with a unique and fun exhibit named 30 Boxes uses Paris and the Olympics as its theme. The artists used various medium including ceramics, light and wood veneers. They are all clever and creative.

Viewing the Olympic-themed art pumped us up for our next event, Men’s and Women’s singles tennis at Roland-Garros Stadium. The tennis complex has nice grounds and many courts. The matches we saw in the stadium were spectacular. Spain’s Carlos Alcáraz (ranked number two in the world and most recent winner of Wimbledon) vs Netherlands Tallon Griekspoor. The women’s match followed with Jessica Pegula from the US (ranked fifth in the world) vs Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina. Amazing seats, great tennis and another magical day in Paris.
